-the book, not the movie. It was about friendship and fear and salvation. Perhaps some of the issues were too weighty for MG, but she didn't notice; I hope. I am enjoying this transition of our books at bedtime. Our practice has been to read three books every night. Occasionally a book or two, okay sometimes three, are withheld as a consequence for bedtime stalling behavior, unfortunately. Mercy Watson chapter books are great, but short enough to be one of three for a night. This was the first substantial book. Her enthusiasm early on was surpassed by the eagerness to complete it once we got to the later chapters. She liked seeing the progress of the bookmark each night. The best indicator, I think, that it was a successful project, is that as soon as we finished she went to the bookshelf and pulled out The House at Pooh Corner. We had started that one a few months ago, but interest faded before we could finish it. Tonight she asked if over the next day and the next and the next if we could read it all. Of all the ways we hope to influence our girls, the skills we want to develop and the drives we want to instill, the love of reading must be at the top.
